BUILDING TECHNOLOGY  [ARC 3514]

Students collect data, analyze and evaluate a residential or small

scale commercial construction. The documentation process covers

the building’s construction principles, materials, techniques, codes of

practice, process of assembly and detailing.

Project 1

Design Modification
& Documentation

Aims to expose students to the recent and more complex building technologies including basement construction, and methods of documentation. In this project students will be required to modify their previous semester’s design project to adopt different, more recent and complex construction systems that suits the local context, facilitated by appropriate precedent studies. In addition students should also provide detail description of all the construction systems used as well as analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of the systems proposed. All the findings shall be reported in appropriate academic report writing format and accordingly a set of working drawings should be produced.

PROJECT 2

Industrialised
Building System

Project 2 is a group project which is related to the topics on Industrialised Building System (IBS), Uniform Building By-Law (UBBL) and Site Establishment. Each group is required to design a simple building (building type will be confirmed later) using IBS construction system and the design should adhere to all the related building regulations. The objective of this project is to expose and engage students in a critical and analytical study of the different IBS construction methods while at the same time becoming aware of the requirements of UBBL. Accordingly a complete set of construction drawing, an academic report and a model shall be produced.
